“My Skin Is The Measure Of All Things” is a sculpture made of wood and silk organza.
The title of the work is a reference to the famous philosophical statement by Protagoras, "Of all things the measure is Man," which highlights the importance of subjective truth and individual perception. (Mark, Joshua J).
Reto values subjectivity and individuality, often delving deep into their own experiences and emotions for inspiration in their artistic practice. The sculpture aimed to represent the tension between the artist’s desires and the limitations of the skin. Limitations of the skin are experienced through their queer identity, physical appearance, skin color, and outer projections. The skin becomes a measuring system that influences the artist's actions, speech, and approach to people, as well as their avoidance of individuals and situations. Therefore, the skin becomes the measure of all things, affecting how the artist perceives and reacts to the world around him.
